چکیده
Modeling peer-to-peer (P2P) networks is a challenge for P2P researchers. In this paper, we provide a detailed analysis of large-scale hybrid P2P overlay network topology, using Gnutella as a case study. First, we re-examine the power-law distributions of the Gnutella network discovered by previous researchers. Our results show that the current Gnutella network deviates from the earlier power-laws, suggesting that the Gnutella network topology may have evolved a lot over time. Second, we identify important trends with regard to the evolution of the Gnutella network between September 2005 and February 2006. Upon analyzing the limitations of the power-laws, we provide a novel two-layered approach to study the topology of the Gnutella network. We divide the Gnutella network into two layers, namely the mesh and the forest, to model the hybrid and highly dynamic architecture of the current Gnutella network. We give a detailed analysis of the two-layered overlay and present six power-laws and one empirical law to characterize the topology. Using the two-layered approach and laws proposed, realistic topologies can be generated and the realism of artificial topologies can be validated. 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

متن کاملTAC: A Topology-Aware Chord-based Peer-to-Peer Network
Among structured Peer-to-Peer systems, Chord has a general popularity due to its salient features like simplicity, high scalability, small path length with respect to network size, and flexibility on node join and departure. However, Chord doesn’t take into account the topology of underlying physical network when a new node is being added to the system, thus resulting in high routing late...
متن کاملChams: Churn-aware overlay construction for media streaming
Overlay networks support a wide range of peer-to-peer media streaming applications on the Internet. The user experience of such applications is affected by the churn resilience of the system. When peers disconnect from the system, streamed data may be delayed or lost due to missing links in the overlay topology. In this paper, we explore a proactive strategy to create churn-aware overlay networ...
متن کاملA Hierarchy Topology Design Using a Hybrid Evolutionary Algorithm in Wireless Sensor Networks
Wireless sensor network a powerful network contains many wireless sensors with limited power resource, data processing, and transmission abilities. Wireless sensor capabilities including computational capacity, radio power, and memory capabilities are much limited. Moreover, to design a hierarchy topology, in addition to energy optimization, find an optimum clusters number and best location of ...
